Heartland Breach At $32M So Far

on 9:26 AM

The largest card data breach in U.S. history has cost Heartland Payment Systems $32 million so far this year. The company had its systems hacked and compromised for months during 2008. Heartland says it lost $2 million in the 2nd quarter of 2009. $22.1 million of the cost is due to fines imposed by the card brands in April 2009 against Heartland and a settlement offer made by Heartland. The company decided to make a settlement offer in order to avoid costs and uncertainty of litigation. Heartland has not yet received a response to its settlement offer.
