DC Update: Week of 1/11/10

on 12:43 PM

This should be a very quiet week on Capitol Hill as Congress slowly returns to work. The House of Representatives convenes the Second Session of the 111th Congress on Tuesday with a quorum call. On Wednesday, the House will meet to consider several bills under Suspension of the Rules. The House will not be in session on Thursday and Friday of this week to accommodate the Democratic Issues Conference. Meanwhile, the Senate is not in session this week.

While there are no hearings directly relevant to credit unions scheduled for this week on either side of the Capitol, the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, a commission created by Congress and charged with examining the causes of the financial meltdown, is scheduled to hold its first public hearings on Wednesday and Thursday. The Commission is chaired by former California State Treasurer Phil Angelides and former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas. The Commission is expected to hold hearings and meetings throughout the year in advance of presenting its report to Congress and the President by December 15, 2010.
