Legislative Update - Week of 3/8

on 10:29 AM

Three weeks remain until the next Congressional break. The Senate returns today to consider tax extender legislation. Later in the week, it will consider the House amendments to the jobs bill that the Senate passed last week. The jobs bill is focused on small business tax incentives, and it’s expected that the Senate will consider additional jobs bills throughout the year. The House returns on Tuesday to consider bills under suspension of the rules. Later in the week, the House will consider a resolution regarding the war in Afghanistan and may also consider any further amendments the Senate makes to the jobs bill.

The Senate Banking Committee is dark this week in anticipation of the release of a new regulatory restructuring bill. If and when it is released, we expect the Senate Banking Committee will proceed to mark-up the following week. On Tuesday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing entitled, "Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs): Their Unique Role and Challenges Serving Lower-Income, Underserved and Minority Communities." On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a hearing entitled, "Regulation of Money Service Businesses." Also on Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises will hold a hearing entitled, "Approaches to Mitigating and Managing Natural Catastrophe Risk: H.R.2555, The Homeowners' Defense Act." On Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises will hold a hearing entitled, "Corporate Governance after Citizens United." Also on Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity will hold a hearing entitled, "The FHA (Federal Housing Administration) Reform Act of 2010."
