Vermont Business Magazine reported an announcement by the Vermont Department of Labor last Friday that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February 2010 was 6.6 , down 1/10th of 1 point from the revised January rate and down 1/10th of 1 point from a year ago. Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Labor Patricia Moulton Powden says that “while this is promising news, we would need to see this pattern continue to determine that employment recovery has begun in the state.”

February unemployment rates for Vermont’s 17 labor market areas ranged from 5.1% in Hartford to 11% in Newport. For comparison, the February unadjusted unemployment rate for Vermont was 7.1%, down 4/10th of 1 point from January 2010 and down 0.3 points from a year ago.
