The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) published a final rule last week requiring most private-sector employers to notify employeesy of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) by posting a notice in the workplace. Credit unions should begin posting the notice on 11/14/11. Copies of the notice will be available on the NLRB website and from NLRB regional offices by Nov. 1.
According to the rule, the notice must be posted “in conspicuous places…including all places where notices to employees concerning personnel rules or policies are customarily posted.” In addition to the physical posting, the rule requires covered employers to post the notice on an internet or intranet site if personnel rules and policies are customarily posted there. Translated versions of the poster must be provided where 20 percent or more of employees speak a language other than English.
Credit unions that are already complying with the Department of Labor (DOL) posting requirement will be regarded as complying with the NLRB rule as well. The DOL notice is available online.
