Big 4 Banks & How They Got That Way

Everybody is aware of the big 4 banks of this country - Citigroup, JP Morgan/Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. What you may not know is that they are comprised from the mergers of 37 banks starting in the mid 1990's.


Similar to credit unions, there are now fewer than 8,000 banks in this country. Dissimilar, however, is that that the 10 largest hold 54% of consumer financial assets, versus only 20% in 1990.
