The Face Behind Bank Transfer Day

on 10:42 AM

The nationwide Bank Transfer Day slated for 11/5 has been getting an enormous amount of press coverage. The consumer effort advocates that consumers move their financial business to credit unions which, in turn, has created a huge interest in credit unions by the media and consumers. Credit unions nationwide report growing membership requests since Bank of America announced its upcoming $5/month debit fee. Bank Transfer Day advocates claim no connection to the national Occupy Wall Street effort that's also covering the media.

Bank Transfer Day is the brainchild of  Los Angeles ar dealer Kristen Christian, who created a Facebook page out of frustration at BofA's new$5 monthly debit fee. She claims not to be seeking personal gain or notoriety but is a willing advocate for credit unions “because of what they do and what they represent.”

Christian's Bank Transfer Day page on Facebook provides talks about the Durbin amendment, advocates for readers to join a credit union, and provides links to help find one to join. Christian's efforts aren't advocated by CUNA or credit unions, but if interested check out the Bank Transfer Day page on Facebook to learn more.
