Vermont Growth in 65 Year Olds & Up

on 5:56 PM

While the financial services industry puts much effort into new technologies and social media to attract younger demographics, the median age in Vermont just keeps on rising. Vermontbiz.com reports that 10 years ago Vermont ranked 28th in percent of population 65 and older. Today it ranks 7th. Nationally, 65 year olds and above are now the largest percent and number of people in the total population, fueled not doubt by the aging baby boomer generation.

In 2000 Vermont's population was 608,827, of which there were 77,510 people 65 years of age or older. In 2010, the number of seniors had grown to 91,078 from a total population of 625,741. That's a 17.5% growth, 17th fastest rate in the nation. However, Vermont's total population growth was the 7th slowest during this period at only 2.8% compared to a national rate of 9.7%.
