NCUA just posted a new video series on detecting and preventing internal fraud. Although the series is by NCUA's Office of Small CUs, the content is applicable to any size CU. The 7-part video series will help managers and volunteers detect and deter internal fraud and employee dishonesty. The first 3 episodes have just been posted to NCUA’s YouTube channel.

In the series, NCUA staff discuss how cooperatives can bolster internal controls and learn how to identify potential clues that are warning signs for fraud. An overview of the series and an outline of the importance of maintaining a policy on employee fraud and conducting surprise cash counts is the focus of the first three episodes. The next 4 episodes, yet to be released, will address separation of duties, employee and family member accounts, file maintenance transactions and vault cash.
