Earlier this week the CFPB released a report called "Teaching Financial Fundamentals" focused on increasing youth financial literacy and capability and empowering teachers with tools to enhance financial education in schools. Simultaneously, the CFPB also released a "Personal Finance Pedagogy" which is a teaching tool that outlines strategies for instructing students of all ages and providing skills, strategies and habits that will support the development of adult financial capability.
Director Cordray gave remarks at a Youth Financial Capability Town Hall in Dallas to discuss the report and the broader issue, calling attention to the great work credit unions are already doing in this area. He commended credit unions for embracing a program to help educate many thousands of young people each year and later in his remarks noted that the Bureau is "well aware that many credit unions share this interest and are willing to find ways to partner with us."
Both the Teaching Financial Fundamentals report and the Personal Finance Pedagogy tool are available online for viewing.
