Hudson Bay Discloses 5m Card Data Breach

on 12:14 PM

Hudson Bay Company, the parent of Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue, disclosed a major data breach yesterday.  The intrusion affects 5 million card holders at the brands, and affected card payments made in an estimated 130 Saks and Lord & Taylor locations across the country, but mainly in New York and New Jersey locations. The company said it does not believe its e-commerce and digital platforms were affected.  Hackers have reportedly been selling the compromised information, which they began stealing in May of 2017, on the dark web.

The data breach is among the biggest and most damaging among retail companies. Data appears to have been stolen using implanted software in cash register systems that tapped card numbers.  The same hackers coordinated data breaches affecting Whole Foods, Chipotle, Omni Hotels & Resorts and Trump Hotel.
