In the nation’s capitol, the House returns today to consider several bills under suspension of the rules. On Tuesday, the House will consider additional bills under suspension before turning its attention to H.R. 3854, the Small Business Financing and Investment Act, the Conference Report to accompany H.R. 2996, the Interior Appropriations Bill, and a continuing resolution to fund the government until December 15, 2009.
The Senate also convenes today, but no roll call votes are expected until 2:30 pm on Tuesday when the Senate will vote on a motion to proceed to consider H.R. 3548, the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2009.
The Committee schedule, as far as interest to credit unions, is a little lighter than recent weeks primarily because the House Financial Services Committee is turning its attention to securities and insurance legislation. Even still, there are two meetings of interest to credit unions:
- On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, has several bills and nominations on its mark-up agenda, including S.1490, the "Personal Data Privacy and Security Act of 2009"; and S.139, the "Data Breach Notification Act." The Judiciary Committee is chaired by Vermont’s Senator Patrick Leahy.
- On Friday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing entitled, "The Overdraft Protection Act of 2009." A witness list for this hearing has not yet been released
