Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal featured a good story on credit unions that draws on information provided by CUNA and steers consumers to aSmarterChoice.org to find a CU they can join.
The writer reports that readers facing the loss of free checking and more fees at banks may be able to get more bang for the buck with a credit union. A comment by an analyst at Bankrate.com says that credit unions are able to beat banks across the board because they’re non-profit and owned by members, so they have an incentive to offer the best deals possible. The article goes on to talk about various fees, ATM networks, shared branching, interest rates, etc.
