Fox Reporter Advises CUs Over Banks

on 11:28 AM

Consumers in the Dallas Fort Worth area got an earful about the benefits of credit union membership thanks to a 10/12 Fox News Report. Reporter Steve Noviello tells viewers that credit unions are simply a better deal with lower fees, better rates and are there to serve their members, not maximize profits. He references the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), explaining that while the banks took advantage of TARP, credit unions didn’t.  Why?  “Because they didn’t need it!” he exclaimed. Noviello proudly boasted that he is a credit union member.  His checking account is at the credit union, as is his mortgage.  Convenience, he says, has never been an issue – particularly given the robust online banking environment his credit union offers, and their participation in shared branching.  Yes, Noviello addressed shared branching in his report, telling viewers that that there are more than 46,000 shared branching locations across the country.  As a member of a credit union that participates in shared branching, Noviello said he could conduct transactions from any of the 46,000 locations. Additionally, because so many credit unions participate in the Co-op Network, he can take advantage of an expansive ATM network and doesn’t have to pay ATM fees that many financial institutions charge when you use someone else’s ATM.
