Today's on-line version of Credit Union Times spotlights the Association's unique effort to develop certified financial counselors in most Vermont credit unions. The 32 participants from 18 credit unions are at the half-way point of attaining their certifications. The program is a Vermont-specific variation of CUNA's Certified Financial Counselor program and makes it possible for individuals to participate without travel and in a condensed period of time. The process combines self-study, regular group teleconferences, one optional in-person event and proctored exams within a one-year period. The effort has been subsidized by funds administered by AVCU's Social Responsibility Committee and makes it possible for every credit union to certify one person absolutely free.
