Next COVID-19 relief legislation developing over next few weeks

CUNA Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan provided an update on the state of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) relief legislation, in addition to other issues, in this week’s Advocacy Update video.

The House is conducting a Committee Work Period in June, while the Senate is in session this week and may consider bipartisan legislation making changes to Economic Impact Payments.

“We continue to expect a broader [COVID-19 relief] bill to develop in the next few weeks. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has indicated this will be the last round of COVID-related legislation,” Donovan said. “While we doubt this will be the last time COVID measures are considered in Congress, a statement like this increases pressure on both parties to work out a deal.”

The video, which can be found below, also highlights the CUNA, American Association of Credit Union Leagues and League letter calling for Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness clarity.

Donovan also highlighted NCUA Chairman Rodney Hood’s call for Telephone Consumer Protection Act clarity relating to pandemic-related communications.
